model 1860 light Cavalry saber, attributed to Private John C. Worth of 4th Iowa Cavalry, ricasso stamped "Emerson & Silver/Trenton, NJ" and "U.S./D.F.M./1864", leather and wire handle, brass knuckle bow, steel scabbard and attached tassel, overall 41 in., blade 35 in.;ÿaccompanied by discharge papers for John C. Worth and other related documents, Provenance: descended through family, recently gifted outside the family; Private Collection; Note: John C. Worth originally enrolled on September 25, 1861, at Mount Pleasant, Iowa as a Private in the 4th Iowa Cavalry, under Union Army command. Notable in his tenure with Company D, Worth was present at Wilson's Raid, which saw the capture of Macon on April 20, 1865, in one of the Civil War's last battles. By August of the same year, he mustered out at the war's conclusion with an honorable discharge.ÿ

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
