- Lot Description
circa 1835, attributed to Duncan Phyfe, New York, scroll back paneled crest rail, cylindrical arms with blocked terminals, pilaster supports, blocked base and feet, inset wood casters, 33-1/2 x 81 x 24 in.
Provenance: Collection of Beverly and Richard Kelly of Garrison, New York
Note: This box sofa is closely related to a sofa made by Duncan Phyfe for George and Maria Fox in 1834, one of Phyfe's earliest examples in the Grecian Plain style, illustrated in Duncan Phyfe: Master Cabinetmaker in New York by Peter Kenny, et. al (fig. 43, pg. 227).
Condition
structurally sound, retains a fine finish and high figuring, proper left arm and rear stile have been repaired, proper right block terminal with section of replaced veneer, proper right rear stile joint with repair, scattered veneer repairs and small filled areas throughout, small veneer chips and losses, shrinkages, other abrasions and wear expected with age and use, upholstery with abraded areas and wear

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
