- Lot Description
a complete and undisturbed packet of information pertaining to a court case filed in 1858 involving a dispute between Daniel Trigg, Connally Trigg, and Lilburn Trigg, of Washington County [Virginia], regarding the purchase of slaves, 14 separate but related documents spanning from 1836 to 1859, largest unfolded approximately 12 x 8 in.

included are: a copy of the ruling regarding the 1836 purchase of "a family of negroes" - Ellen and her four children, separated and divided amongst the Trigg family; three separate and detailed interest statements showing payments due for a "partnership agreement" between the three men, shows interest paid on the slave purchase; account of items purchased on behalf of the slaves: shoes, calico, etc.; inventory of sales within the company to whom the brothers were employed; two 1859 depositions regarding the case; and five receipts pertaining to either the note due or amount borrowed to pay for the slaves

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction, or will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
