- Lot Description
Collection of four identically framed Utagawa Hiroshige reprints; includes "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido: White Rain at Shono", "The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaido: Seba", "Eight Views of Kanazawa: Evening Snow at Uchikawa", and "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo: Sudden Shower over Shin-Ohashi bridge and Atake"; first three each measure approximately 10-1/4" x 13-1/4" with frame and have a sight image of approximately 5" x 7-7/8"; last one measures approximately 13-1/4" x 10-1/4" with frame and has a sight image of approximately 7-7/8" x 5"; some staining to glass of the three landscape oriented scenes but all prints appear to be in Good condition. Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, considered the last great master of that tradition. Hiroshige is best known for his landscapes, such as the series The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido and The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaido; and for his depictions of birds and flowers.
