- Lot Description
Paul Gerard Bertholet (American, 1959- ) oil on canvas Gilbert Stuart style depiction of Thomas Jefferson, signed to lower right "Bertholet 97 After Stuart" in a gilt frame measuring 31-1/2" in height by 25-1/2" in width with the sight image measuring 27-1/2" in height by 21-1/2" in width, and was created by the artist as a prototype for the piece currently hanging in The Homestead in Hot Springs, VA. In overall good condition, all measurements are approximate. Paul Bertholet (American, 1959- ) is a fine artist and decorative painter active in the Baltimore, DC, Northern Virginia, and Richmond areas. He specializes in custom murals from Chinoiserie to trompe l'oeil, and is an expert at custom decorative painting applications such as faux marble, faux bois, glazing, Venetian plaster, stenciling, gilding and metallic finishes. His landscape paintings and portraits have been shown in a variety of exhibits on both coasts, and are part of many private collections nationwide.
