- Lot Description
Dr. Newton Raymundo da Silva (Brazil, 1918-1997) unframed charcoal on canvas depicting a port-side scene of gentlemen relaxing; measures approximately 34" x 44". Dr. Newton Raymundo da Silva was born in Salvadro, Bahia-Brazil on February 8, 1918 and died in 1997 at home, and was known as an artist, engineer, & professor. He graduated in Civil Engineering in 1946, and became a professor for the Federal University of Bahia in 1954. Dr. Silva specialized in portraying church interiors, representing their altar pieces, patios, and interiors. He is known for hundreds, if not thousands, of works, including those of old houses, human figure drawings, and landscapes, with a particular interest in the academic lines of old Bahia. This information was provided to Bremo Auctions by the son of Dr. Newton Raymundo da Silva himself, Dr. Marcelo Silva.
