Mark Baum (Poland/America, 1903 - 1997), watercolor of harbor and houses, framed and matted under glass; measures approximately 16-3/8" x 20-13/16" with a sight image of approximately 9-1/2" x 14-7/16". Signed to lower right "Mark Baum". Mark Baum was born in 1903 in Sanok, a village in what is now Poland. He emigrated to the U.S.A. when he was 16 years old and settled in New York City. In his twenties, he began painting watercolors, switched to oils in the early 1930s, and to acrylics around 1970. Since his formal training was confined to some courses taken at the National Academy of Design and the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown, he is considered to be self-taught. During the 1930s and 1940s, his paintings were representational, primarily landscapes and cityscapes.
Shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser. Upon request, our staff will provide the list of shippers who deliver to destinations within the United States and overseas. Some property that is sold at auction can be subject to laws governing export from the U.S., such as items that include material from some endangered species. Import restrictions from foreign countries are subject to these same governing laws. Granting of licensing for import or export of goods from local authorities is the sole responsibility of the buyer. Denial or delay of licensing will not constitute cancellation or delay in payment for the total purchase price of these lots.
