Julius Junghanns (Austria/Germany,1878-1958) oil on canvas depicting an expansive landscape of farming country with a river running through pastures with cattle, farm buildings and flying birds; signed to bottom right "Julius Junghanns"; measures approximately 30-3/4" x 42-1/4" with gilded frame and has a sight image of approximately 26-1/2" x 38". Julius Paul Junghanns was born in 1876 in Vienna. He was educated as a lithographer in Dresden, followed by studies at the Dresden Academy of Arts which he continued at the Munich Academy. There he studied with the animal painter Heinrich Zügel, a period which influenced him very much. Zügel recommended Junghanns to take a lectureship for plein-air painting at the Düsseldorf Academy of Arts, which resulted into a professorship. Junghanns also took part regularly in the Great German Art Exhibition at Haus der Kunst in Munich. His works are now in renowned collections such as the Pinakothek in Munich, Kunsthalle Dusseldorf as well as museums in Berlin, Vienna, London and others. Junghanns died in 1958.
