Abstract garden landscape depiction; unframed; oil on board; signed and dated "Jane Fletcher '62" to bottom right corner; titled and signed to back with artist's address; measures approximately 24" x 36". Jane Cotton Fletcher was born in San Diego, CA on November 9, 1911. Jane graduated from San Diego State College in 1934 and taught elementary school before her marriage to Willis Fletcher in 1937. Mrs. Fletcher continued to teach art during her long career. Her traditional landscapes later evolved into abstracts. She won seven art competitions and saw her work exhibited in eight public venues, including the San Diego Museum of Art. A review of her work, complete with illustrations, appeared in the May 1968 issue of La Revue Moderne in Paris. She died in San Diego on April 16, 2006.
