Giuseppe Zocchi hand-colored engraving; titled to back "Never Lose Hope", marked to top front "imprimé par l'Editrice P.V.", marked to bottom left "G. Zocchi inven.", marked to bottom right "F. Bartolozzi incid. appo Wagner Ven. C.P.E.S P.V", and marked to bottom middle "Quindi ristoro all'agghiacciate genti Sono le fiamme, e delle lane il panno"; measures approximately 27-1/4" x 21" with gilded frame and has a sight image of approximately 19" x 13"; engraving is in Very Good condition; frame is in Fair condition with staining to glass and cloth border. Giuseppe Zocchi (1711–1767) was an Italian painter and printmaker, active in Florence, and best known for his vedute of the city. Born into a poor family, Zocchi began his training in his native Florence. The Marchese Andrea Gerini became his patron when he was very young, sending him to further his studies in Venice, Milan, Bologna, and Rome. Gerini commissioned Zocchi to record all the famous Florentine landmarks, which he did in a series of drawings, now in New York's Pierpont Morgan Library.
