Elm glass front hutch by Edward Wormley (USA, 1907-1995) for Drexel Heritage, from the Precedent collection of 1947, thusly marked to the back; features three upper shelves of four sections with rectangular glass windows, over four cabinet doors of rectangular shape with brass hardware; two left doors open to the left, two right doors open to the right; measures approximately 68" tall, 48" wide, and 16" deep; in Good overall condition with age appropriate wear. Edward Wormley believed that modernism meant freedom—"freedom to mix, to choose, to change, to embrace the new but to hold fast to what is good.” Wormley’s pieces became necessities for a conservative, up-scale and comfort-seeking customer who loved the versatility his designs offered. His work was featured in the Good Design show at the Museum of Modern Art during 1951 and 1952. Today, his work can be seen in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Museum of Decorative Arts in Montreal and inside the homes of many avid antique collectors.
Shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser. Upon request, our staff will provide the list of shippers who deliver to destinations within the United States and overseas. Some property that is sold at auction can be subject to laws governing export from the U.S., such as items that include material from some endangered species. Import restrictions from foreign countries are subject to these same governing laws. Granting of licensing for import or export of goods from local authorities is the sole responsibility of the buyer. Denial or delay of licensing will not constitute cancellation or delay in payment for the total purchase price of these lots.
