Edouard Frederic Wilhelm Richter (French, 1844-1913) oil on canvas "The Odalisque"; signed to lower left "E. Richter, Paris 1882"; gilt framed, lined, and with minor restoration; measures approximately 54" x 34-1/4" with frame and has a sight image of approximately 47" x 27"; in Good overall condition with some damage to frame. Provenance: Previously sold at Christie's New York in 2008; sale #1964, lot 101, for $18,750. Edouard Frederic Wilhelm Richter (1844-1913) was a German painter born in Paris. He began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague before entering the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris where he was a student of Ernest Hebert and Leon Bonnat. His first exhibition was held in 1866. He is best known for his Orientalist paintings.
