Carl-Harry Stalhane (Sweden, 1920-1990) pottery vase textured and glazed in shades of burgundy, brown, green, and white; signed to bottom; measures approximately 5-1/4" tall and 2-5/8" in diameter to opening; in Good overall condition with no noticeable chips or cracks. Carl-Harry Stalhane was a Swedish ceramic artist & designer, educated at Isaac Grunewald Painting School form 1943 - 1946 & then at the Academie Colarossi in Paris 1947 - 1948 where he studied under Ossip Zadkine. He worked for Rorstrand from 1939 to 1973, where he took over as leader after Gunnar Nylund. While working at Rorstrand, he was appointed head teacher in ceramics & glass at the Industrial Art School in Gothenburg, a position he held until 1971. In 1973 he moved to his own design house in Lidkoping to experiment with local clays & minerals while collaborating with other designers & artists & designing for Bing & Grondahl. His work is displayed world-wide, most notably being represented at The National Museum in Stockholm as well as the museum of Modern Art in New York. He died on April 11, 1990 in Lidkoping, Sweden.
