- Lot Description
Antique Lilian rug made in Persia, with salmon, brown and beige and a single field medallion and floral border; handmade 100% wool pile Persian oriental rug; measures approximately 5'3" x 9'7"; in Good overall condition with no apparent staining and very minimal wear. Lilian rugs are tribal rugs made by nomadic Kudish people of the province of Markad. These people live a semi-nomadic life living in villages or tribes away from the city and practicing the traditions there ancestors did. Lilian rugs were not made to originally be sold, but where meant to be used as dowry items with practical value such as floor covering or family insurance against future hard times. The typical design is an overall floral pattern in which floral sprays surround a central floral-bouquet medallion. Lilian rugs usually have magnificent rose-pink or rose-red fields with blue and azure colors used in the motifs and borders.
