After Louis Maurer American, 1832-1932 Throughout his prints of fire fighting, Louis Maurer emphasized accuracy. Here, a group of firemen from Excelsior Company No. 2, of 21 Henry Street, New York City, are shown pulling a pumper-wagon from the firehouse in response to a night alarm. The clock inside the firehouse reads 1:22. At the left, Nathaniel Currier, a volunteer fire fighter with the company, runs to join his colleagues, James Merritt Ives and George B. Ives. This print is one in a series of six that was produced to acknowledge the bravery of fire fighters.
This printing is from the second edition published in the 1860s, to which Currier and Ives added two prints to complement the original 4 published in the 1850s. Such was demand for these prints that C&I extended the series.

Very Good. Unexamined out of the frame, the visual surfaces appear extra clean and fresh for its age. There is age toning, and some surface abrasion in the right upper margin, and wrinkle in the upper side left.
