- Lot Description
This oil on canvas was painted after an identical work of art by British artist Arthur J Elsley (1860 - 1951) who was an exceptionally popular artist known for illustrations especially of children. This example is painted by H Baker, but is contemporaneous with Elsley as noted by the age of this painting which is c. 1890-1900.
Its depiction of an exuberant curly haired blond girl with collies would be a hit with children and those who love the playful childhood innocence of the long gone Victorian age.
The painting by Elsley appeared on a postage stamp.
