Partially-glazed stoneware, leather. Studio-made, Venice, CA.
15.5" H x 13" W x 9.5" D
69" overall drop
Provenance: The Estate of Robert Maxwell
In the 1960s, the garden area of the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona served as a gathering place for local craftspeople to engage in demonstrations of their skills alongside the opportunity to sell work to the community. Among the works made at the fair was the present lot, a rare hanging planter. The original leather with which the planter was mounted for hanging would have been hand-strung by the neighboring leatherworker demonstration.

Very good vintage condition. Occasional surface scuffing or scratches but no cracks or areas of repair when viewed under UV light. Two small, smooth chips to the tip of the planter. Leather straps are worn but sturdy and have probably been replaced at some point.
