- Lot Description
Genuine (Treated) Sapphire and Earth-Mined Diamond Necklace. This amazing necklace is made of platinum and features a phenomenal 52.03 carat, oval-cut, earth-mined blue sapphire (that has been treated by titanium diffusion) and surrounded by 1.06 carats of round, brilliant-cut, G-H color, SI1-SI2 clarity diamonds in the lacy patterned halo and hinged pear-shaped bail. The designer, Orianne, has placed her hallmark at the top of the bail. The sapphire is double prong-set and the pendant is balanced and supported with a strong, petal-shaped looped gallery. The pendant is approximately 1.75" long and 1.25" wide and hangs from a platinum rope chain that is 18" long with a lobster clasp. This necklace is certified and appraised for $52,870.00 estimated retail replacement value.

- Titanium diffusion is an enhancement technique that was developed in the mid-1970's to give a blue sapphire a better and more even color. The method does not harm the gemstone. Since the 1990's, diffused sapphires have risen in popularity for use in fine jewelry, and remain so today. Enhancements on gemstones make an amazing piece of jewelry more affordable than a non-enhanced gemstone.
