SÈVRES.
TWO ASSIETTES in soft porcelain from the service "small vases and garlands" of the Countess du Barry with polychrome decoration in the center of the monogram "DB" of Madame du Barry, the letter D with gold background and the letter B formed of flowers, and flowered vases (cassolettes) joined by garlands of flowers on the wing. The edge is decorated with a row of blue and gold beads. Gold fillets on the edges. Around 1770-1771. Diameter : 24 cm. This service, ordered by the Countess du Barry in 1770 and delivered in August 1771, is listed as "Service white background with garlands and small vases with the Figure DB" in the inventory of property of Madame du Barry drawn up on 7 fructidor year II (24 August 1794). The decorative motif is probably due to Charles-Augustin de Saint Aubin, of which a drawing attributed to the ornemanist representing two models of decoration captioned "Projet d'un service pour être exécuté à Sève pour Madame du Barry 1770" (Bibliothèque de l'Institut à Paris, inv. MN2057) still exists. The service was probably ordered for the castle of Louveciennes, offered by Louis XV in 1769 to his new favorite, who resided there until her death in 1793.
