Harry Everett Townsend Am. 1879–1941 Woman on Sofa Reading Oil on canvas 14 x 14 in. 35.6 x 35.6 cm Property of Charles V. Murray, Winston-Salem, North Carolina Provenance: A copy of a letter of authentication from Walt Reid, Illustration House, Westport, Connecticut, accompanies the lot and reads as follows: This is to certify that that the above painting, an oil sketch on canvas of a girl reading on a sofa, 14" x 14" [illustrated on the letterhead], although not signed, is known by me to be a work of Harry Everett Townsend (1879-1941). A short biography of the artist and an example of his work is included on page 71 in my book "The Illustrator in America 1900-1960's published by Reinhold in 1966.
Good condition, good appearance, minor paint loss in the couch area, no apparent restoration when examined with a black light
