12.4.24- Assessment by: PianoWorks LLC 514 Oak Park Dr. Round Rock, TX 78681 austinpianoworks@gmail.com
Steinway M #312145, made in 1942.
Case and finish: The original lacquer finish is degraded as one would expect after 82 years, with bare spots on the top of the piano where the lacquer has completely worn away years ago. The case is unremarkable and serviceable with a little polish, as is.
Pedals and back action: Pedals, pedal lyre, and linkage fully functional.
Action: All original and in poor condition. While the instrument can be played as is, a discriminating professional would insist on all new action parts. Original ivory keytops! All 52 of them! Not often that you find an 82 year-old with all of their original teeth!
NOTE: Unidentified hardened 'dust' on lower register's hammers. Perhaps in less-than-ideal storage for an extended period of time. Strings and Tuning Pins: Original strings and tuning pins. Soundboard, Bridges and Plate. No cracks in soundboard or bridges. Pitch and tone: The piano plays well and could be put back into service in most homes with a mere cleaning up and tuning but it is equally good as a candidate for a complete rebuild. This piano has been inspected by a Registered Piano Technician who is available to answer any question you have about the mechanical elements of the piano.
