Impressive Chinese carved rosewood etagere/display, late 19th c. (Qing dynasty), having elaborate openwork scrolling foliate crest spaced by finials modeled as divine figures seated on auspicious clouds, upper case comprised by twelve open shelves with carved tracery galleries, lower case fitted with four cabinet doors, each opening to interior shelf and drawer, with continuation of foliated scrollwork and floral decoration, rising on plinth base, cabinetry intact with areas of warping, approx 102.5"h, 121"l, 19.5"w **Provenance: Originally purchased by James Clarence Rogers (Iowa/ Kansas, 1847-1913), a prominent businessman known for founding the Wamego Bank (now Bank of the Flint Hills) in Wagemo, Kansas. Mr. Rogers purchased this piece at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair as part of the Wisconsin Building, which he commissioned to have rebuilt in Kansas City. The Rogers estate, comprising dozens of items originally purchased at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, was sold by Woody Auction in Topeka, Kansas on Sunday, April 1st, 1979. Offered as Lot 155, our consignor's family acquired it at this historic sale, and it has remained in their family for the past several decades. The last four images in the listing are copies taken from Woody Auction's April 1979 catalog featuring this piece.**
