Monumental Louis XVI style gilt wall mirror, having vasiform crest surmounted by seated allegorical figures and foliate scrollwork, ovular frame, encasing flat mirror plate, approx 87"h, 48"w, 6"d, 85lbs
03.125.25: In my opinion regarding LOT 3319: I note that the mirror is presently intact and sturdy, all molded elements appearing secure, the frame appearing to securely encase beveled mirror plate, which is free from observed chipping, hairlines/ fractures, hazing/ spotting, and silver loss (plate not examined outside of frame), there is tonal variation of the gilt finish associated with typical scattered patches of gilt-painted touch ups, small flaked gilt losses, patination with spotting, and light mellowing and rubs commensurate with age and use, the head of the figure atop the crest appears to have a section of loss to the left side of the face, it is possible it was left unfinished due to this part of the face being mostly concealed by the raised arm, but it appears to me as loss based upon the rough surface and misshapen appearance of the head, close visual and UV light examinations reveal a small number of typical minor chips, including a couple with visible composite material, seemingly resin, and other typical minor surface wear such as small nicks and light abrasions, all being commensurate with age and use, a review of the reverse reveals a couple minute seams not appearing to affect structural integrity of the moldings
