French Louis XVI style paint-decorated armoire, 19th c., having ribbon and foliate crest on molded cornice, large central door, flanked by narrow side cabinets with ovular caned panel centering torch motif, each door encasing beveled mirror plate, and opening to adjustable-height shelved interior, central cabinet with lower drawer, case rising on tapered supports, approx 93.5"h, 66.5"w, 19.75"d
Condition
10.24.24-I note that the armoire is presently intact and structurally sturdy, the painted finish having tonal variations throughout from areas of discoloration and light staining, there are areas of paint craquelure, particularly at the left-hand side panel, and a sparse number of typical minor paint flaked losses, the caned panels are secure and currently free from observed losses or tearing, the oval framing of both panels having a split at either end but remaining intact, there is minor evidence of old woodworm at the lower portion of the case, the mirror plates being secure and free from observed fractures or chipping, and having minute amounts of small silver losses and spotting commensurate with age, interior shelving appears sturdy, and there is typical minor seam separation at some areas of joinery, not appearing to affect structural integrity
