Italian Neoclassical style marquetry inlaid slant-front bureau, 18th c., having fall-front cabinet revealing writing surface and interior gallery, above three exterior drawers, with inlaid foliate scrollwork, rising on tapered legs, approx 43"h, 47.5"w, 22"d
01.16.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 3282: I note that the bureau is presently intact and structurally secure, the veneer having scattered splits and alligatoring, as is typical considering 18th century origin, some of these splits having reinforcement or typical filled restorations, others with a minute level of lifting along the seam, all currently appearing to remain stable, I observe minute old evidence of woodworm commensurate with origin, the drawers and fall-front panel operating smoothing, the frieze drawer lacking a lockplate, the drawer-fronts of the lower standard drawers being slightly bowed but closing overall comfortably, the marquetry being overall well-preserved, the veneer overall having typical small scattered chips, some with filled or red-wash concealment or reinforcement, and there are a few inherent patched restorations, I observe typical surface wear commensurate with 18th century origin/ age and use, such as minor abrasions, nicks, and chips, tonal variations from areas of light discoloration, fading, and minor spotting
