French Louis XVI style mahogany card table, late 19th c., hinged banded top enclosing an inset yellow baize surface, over frieze centered by a pair of female sphinx supporting a sunburst mask, on tapering fluted legs, closed: approx 31.25"h, 35.5"w, 17.75"d, open: approx 30.25"h, 35.5"w, 35.5"d **Provenance: the contents of the prominent San Antonio Holt Family's Terrell Hills home**
10.4.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 3231: I note that the table is presently intact and structurally secure, the varnish of top (when in the closed position) exhibits alligatoring/ crazing, the ormolu mounts are all present and securely mounted to veneer, with light tonal variations from minor rubs and mellowing of the dore concentrated at protruding elements, there is minute seam separation along some portions of the ormolu trim encircling top but all remain secure, I observe typical light spotting to the trim, and some sparse, minute pitting, the hinged top opens smoothly, as do the sliding supports that extend to support open table top, extension of the supports reveals a concealed storage compartment, the yellow baize game surface exhibits staining commensurate with use, surface is free from tearing and remains securely inset within framing, the parquetry panels at the apron are remarkably well-preserved and free from observed losses, the legs and apron exhibit a few minute nicks and abrasions commensurate with light use, I am not an expert on such furniture so have taken multiple high-resolution images for your review
