French Louis Philippe style burl walnut commode, late 19th c., having rectangular top, over one frieze drawer, and additional three standard drawers, with French dolphin gilt metal escutcheons, rising on ogee bracket feet, approx 39"h, 49 3/8"w, 27.5"d
10.28.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 1372: I note that the commode is presently intact and structurally sturdy, the top having typical panel seam separation, the back end of one side and the front edge having filled reinforcement along the seam, the veneer having tonal variations both inherent and commensurate with age, particularly to the top where there are areas of staining and water rings, and the apron which appears to have remnants of a red wash reinforcement or refinishing, there are sparse typical splits, all remaining stable, including the splits extending down the side panels with filled reinforcement, there are scattered veneer chips, which are also typical, and of varied degree, most of them being very minor, most with filled restoration, light old woodworm evidence also having filled concealment along the front edge of top, all drawers currently operate smoothly, the interiors lined with wood grain patterned contact paper and remaining overall well-kept/ clean, the aforementioned surface wear, in addition to some scuffs and chips to edges of top and a few deep abrasions, is commensurate with mid 19th century origin and use
