- Lot Description
French walnut vitrine/ display cabinet, early 20th c., rectangular case with black-painted trim, glazed door with scrolling foliate marquetry inlay, gilt metal trim and foliate mounts, shelved interior, rising on bracket base, approx 40 7/8"h, 31 7/8"w, 12 7/8"d
Condition
12.2.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 2257: I note that the cabinet is presently intact and structurally sturdy, the metal elements remaining securely mounted throughout, and having typical tonal variations deriving from patination, mellowing, and spotting, the glass pane of the cabinet door is currently free from observed fractures or chipping, the marquetry inlay being overall well-preserved, there is a split near the back edge of top that has begun to slightly bow along the seam but remains intact and stable at this time, I observe a few typical minor splits commensurate with origin, including a split at the back panel that is visible from the interior but appearing stable and structurally secure, and typical light surface wear such as small veneer chips, particularly at the right side of lower edge, some with filled concealment, as is common in antique furniture, as well as small nicks and abrasions commensurate with age and use
