- Lot Description
French Provincial Louis XV style walnut commode, 19th c., serpentine case with carved foliated scrollwork, fitted with three drawers, rising on short cabriole legs, ending on whorl feet, approx 40"h, 53.25"w, 30"d **Provenance: From the Byram Family's Above Stratford Mansion. John Byram, a prominent Austin-based real estate developer, and his late wife Sally Byram curated this French Provincial style estate with the help of notable architects and interior designers. The home has remained untouched since Sally's untimely passing in 2006, serving as a testament to her taste for sophistication and craftsmanship**
Condition
3.10.25-In my opinion regarding LOT: 2220-the commode is sturdy and very heavy, due to gallery location I am unable to fully take good straight-on photos or a photo of the left side panel, please refer to online images, the case displays some overall scattered evidence of woodworm as typical of its provincial origin, the top further exhibits some slight separation of panels with intermittent fill reinforcement and a old repair at the left corner, see image, I further note some inherent imperfections such wood knots (one with unique wood patch), the overall case displays some wear/nicks, tonal variation, there a noted small wood loss to the right rear foot and some drawers slide well and handles are secure, I am unable to say if the handles are original as there are no holes on the interior, interior drawers further show evidence of wood wear and stable splits, and/or minor separation of panels, all mentioned typical and commensurate with the origin, age and use of the commode
