- Lot Description
Empire style figured walnut secretary commode, late 19th c., having marble top, above three drawers, upper drawer with fall front, revealing interior gallery fitted with four drawers, flanked by columnar supports, rising on bun feet, approx 38.25"h, 49"w, 24.25"d
Condition
10.30.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 3415: I note that the commode is presently intact and structurally sturdy, the marble top having inherent natural inclusions and fissures, as well as sparse typical minor chipping to edges, areas of light discoloration, and abrasions commensurate with age and use, all drawers currently operating smoothly, including those at the interior gallery, the pulls and escutcheon of the secretaire section of case being later added, with rubs and fills from a previous drawer fixture, there are scattered minor filled restorations to the case, which are sparse in number and typical for 19th century furniture, as well as minute evidence of old woodworm at the lower edge commensurate with origin, I observe typical minor surface wear such as small veneer chips and nicks, light abrasions, and marble top edge scuffing commensurate with age and use
