Bronze sculpture, "Ludwig," after a work by Elizabet Ney (Munster, Germany, Austin, Texas, 1833-1907), an edition of 12 commissioned by Raymond Brown, Country Store Gallery in the early 1970s, executed by artist Jim (James) Frank Ward (Texas, 1931-2012), marked 12/ 12 at one end, mounted on a wood base, bronze: approx 5.25"h, 4.5"w, 9.75"d, overall: approx 6.25"h, 10.5"w, 5"d, 12lbs **Note: Elizabet Ney's dog that she possessed later in life was Ludwig, a Bullmastiff. The dog was reportedly named after the Bavarian King Ludwig II (1845-1886) who was the subject of Ney's marble sculpture in 1868. On January 25, 1976, the Waco Tribune-Herald reported that Baylor University had received a gift from Mr. Raymond Brown, a bronze sculpture of Ney's "Ludwig." The Seguin Gazette, issue of January 23, 1983, states that Southwest Texas University received a gift of a Ney's "Ludwig" bronze from Raymond Brown. The Elizabet Ney Museum, Austin, Texas, is in possession of a similar "Ludwig" bronze marked 8/ 12. The sculptor Jim Ward received, as part of his commission, two of the sculptures, one was donated to the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon, Texas.** **Austin Auction Company included sculpture #3 in its auction of August 30, 2015. At that time, the sculptor was not known**
