(pair) French Louis XV style upholstered slipper chairs/ fauteuils, early 20th c., each having parcel gilt and white painted frame, with ribbon crest, padded back, seat, and arms in later Fortuny "Campanelle" silk damask upholstery, with oversized removable seat cushion, rising on cabriole legs, ending on whorl feet, approx 35.75"h, 25"w, 21"d, seat height: approx 22.5"h **Provenance: the contents of the prominent San Antonio Holt Family's Terrell Hills home**
10.4.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 3259: I note that both chairs are presently intact and structurally secure, the painted finish of the frame exhibits typical tonal variations due to areas of discoloration/ staining and surface wear commensurate with age and use, the loose seat cushions have a well-retained oversized form and fit comfortably within frame, the upholstery of both chairs, including the cushions, exhibit areas of fading/ discoloration concentrated in the coral-ground damask foliates, I do not currently observe tearing to the upholstery, all remaining secure at the seams at this time, both chairs have slightly visible remnants of glue reinforcement at the joinery of padded upholstered arms, and both having typical minor splits to frame not appearing to obstruct structural integrity, one chair having visible glue and filled reinforcement to a split at the crest rail, the other chair with glue reinforcement at the joinery of front left-hand leg, there is typical surface wear such as abrasions, chips, minor paint peeling/ losses, scuffs, and nicks commensurate with use and early 20th century origin
