This intricately designed Japanese sterling silver natsume is adorned with an elaborate dragon motif, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship typical of the Meiji period (1868-1912). The natsume features a detailed relief of a dragon swirling through clouds, symbolizing power and good fortune in Japanese culture. The rich texture and high relief of the design bring the dragon to life, wrapping around the body of the jar with dynamic movement. The jar bears hallmarks at its base; Jungin (sterling) and maker (unknown )which suggest its origin in late 19th to early 20th century (pre 1912) Japan, during a period known for skilled metalwork and detailed ornamentation.
Dimensions:
The jar is in excellent condition with minor surface wear consistent with its age. The silver's reflective surface and patina indicate a level of oxidation typical of older silver items. The jar maintains its shape and integrity, with no dents or damage.
