• Lot Description
  Of circular form pair of armorial porcelain plates, ca. 1780, minute hand painted in polychrome and gilt highlights with attention to finest details, depicting battlement defensive wall with two towers, crossed tree trunks and crescent moon underneath (symbolising one who has been enlightened and honoured, as a knight returning from crusades), fine floral-foliate drapes garlands design and serpentine rim motif. Letter from R. Manheim Galleries, The Antique Treasure House Of the South, New Orleans, dated June 13, 1956 offered along with two polaroids with this lot. Provenance: old private collection of Mr. & Mrs. Norman & Lilian Daniels, President of H.J. Heinz Co. (1969-1971); former collection of Sir William Frieth of Malden, Essex, England; gift from Lichtenstuls antique collectors, Pittsburgh, Pa, ca. 1950's/1960's; by descent in the family to the current owner.
