A French Ormolu clock, featuring decoration on all sides. A full bust winged psyche flanks both sides of the clock dial. Gadrooned edging, acanthus leaves, fish scale pattern engraving, and various leaf and berry attachments, provide the major decorations of the clock case. Topped with scroll handled urn. White enamel dial with blue Roman numerals for all chapters. All minute hash marks on continuous circle on top of the chapter markers, as well as each five minute interval identified with arabic numerals. The clock utilizes a 96 mm full plate, Japy style movement, striking on the half and full hour. Louis XV gilt type hands, and a domed glass crystal. Movement marked with company logo. Lemerle & Charpentier were noted for their bronze work, having won the Gold medal at the 1878 Paris Exposition Universelle. Mainspring key included. Clock weighs 53 pounds.
Condition
Running and chiming at inspection. The clock will run on the crutch (view video), but may require a new mainspring as it is a little weak. Missing pendulum; reproductions are available. A few minor scratches on the outside of the crystal. The dial is very good, with only a few small contact marks. No hairlines. A few small verdigris stains.
