Persian, 1846, paper and ink. Conceived in the traditional format of a 19th century Persian ketubbah, the upper portion of the document shows two rising suns on either side of a frond-like shape (a symbol of the Persian throne), above which are two female lions. The surface of the document is covered with colorful flowers and is bordered with the Aramaic words "Good luck, good fortune with the help of the Almighty...Voice of the bride and the voice of the groom." The bottom portion of the document is a large cutout square into which is inserted the marriage contract. Matted under plexiglass in gilt frame, overall 44-7/8" x 41-1/2".

Creasing throughout from prior folding, old tears and soiling, nice antique condition.
