• Lot Description
  Portrait of a Lady, half-length, in a white cotton underdress and dark blue satin dress. Oil on canvas, in an oval gild wood and gesso frame, overall 35" x 30". Sale Records: Wolf's Auction Gallery, May 1985, #73; Benjamin Sonnenberg Sale. Sotheby's June 1997, #137. Provenance: from the collection of Benjamin Sonnenberg (1901-1978). Benjamin Sonnenberg was an American public relations consultant, who represented celebrities and major corporations. He was best known for the lavish entertaining he hosted for clients and other notables at his Manhattan townhouse located at 19 Gramercy Park South. He also had extensive art collection. The Sonnenberg Sotheby's sale of 1979 made auction history, it was the largest assemblage of art and antiques from a single owner auctioned by Sotheby Parke Bernet of New York.

  Condition

  Very good for the age. Patch repair verso, please see photos. Evenly fluorescent under UV light, with exception of the pinpointing of the patched area and several minor in paintings mid left.
