• Lot Description
  This impressive gilt bronze bust represents a female saint, possibly Saint Catherine. The figure is characterized by a classical Baroque aesthetic, with a serene and devout expression, upward-gazing eyes, and hands clasped around a book, symbolizing her religious devotion and scholarly nature. The bust features flowing drapery and intricate detailing, particularly in the hair and facial features, capturing the dynamic and emotive qualities typical of the Baroque period. The bust is mounted on a contemporary black stone base, and the back of the bust reveals its hollow construction and an internal support rod.

  Condition

  The bust retains much of its original gilding, with some areas showing wear and patina consistent with age. The internal structure is visible from the back, showing signs of oxidation on the support rod, but the overall structural integrity is sound.
