Lot Description

First year of operation for the San Francisco mint. Mintage 123,826. Very difficult to find about uncirculated and higher examples. The mint was not able to meet demand for coinage, and competed with private mints for output. Coins were always in short supply, hence western coinage was heavily circulated. It took several years before the mint reached full production.
