Double-panel screen, hand painted in polychrome on rice paper depicting mountain landscape, silk brocade borders and wooden frame with metal fittings, inscribed in the upper right corner:
"The temple looks to be set in white clouds, which the monks don’t have to sweep away. The door opens when the visitor arrives, surrounded by the pine flowers in thousands of mountains. Created by Nan Nong (the author’s art name), the master of Un Lim San Bang (Mountain House Un Lim)."
and sealed in upper right corner: "Heo Geon (the author’s full name) ’s seal" and "Nan Nong (the author’s art name)." Overall open 56" x 52-1/2" and folded 56" x 26-1/4" x 1-3/8".
Provenance: Estate of Dr. Ye Yong Chun (Korean, 1910-1994), who served in the South Korean government, notably as Head of Civil Affairs in the Ministry of Education in 1944, Minister in Office of Governor-General of Korea, Vice Governor and Governor of Bank of Korea (1951-1961), Minister of Construction from (1964-1966), Chairman of Korean Branch of International LiONS Club, Chair of Korean International Law Association and Deputy Chair of Democratic-Republican Party; brought to the USA in the early 1980s by descent in the family, thence to current owner.
