The character portrayed is Beatrice, from the Shakespearean play "Much ado about nothing". The window originally hung in a municipal library, and is hinged as to be swung open to provide ventilation. The scene is constructed from the viewpoint of the observer, looking through a arched portal, with Beatrice resting on a stone bannister. The arch is a complex creation with a violet keystone, translucent white opaline arch elements and capital, trimmed with interior purple panels, terminating at a column of truncated iridescent green pyramids. The field around the arch is mottled glass of various shades of blue. The foreground above the title is various shades of mottled glass. "Beatrice", the title, is constructed from cobalt blue glass. The background of the figure is aqua colored glass, with green glass leaf forms, implying hanging vines. Beatrice's garment is primarily burgundy, with other shades; two aqua jewels denoting decoration; exemplify the quality of construction of this glass work of art. The face and hands are hand painted, rendering a portrait appearance to the work. No noteworthy age fractures observed.
