Born in Brussels, Belgium in 1885, little is known of Colinet's early years and training. Sometime in the early 1900's she moved to Paris and studied under her fellow countryman Jef Lambeau, before his return to Belgium and his death in 1908. Paris was the center of art during her productive period, and Colinet would remain there until her death in 1972. Her work was in the Art Deco style, with a slight variation from her contemporaries. She Was heavily influenced from the earlier Orientalism movement. Colinet's work favored performers, exotic dancers and female nudes, primarily in fluid motion. She first exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1913, and would continue to exhibit throughout her active years. Her work continued to be shown at art exhibitions long after her death. It appears Colinet started to fade from the art scene in the 1940's, as no reliable information appears after the war years. At a Christie's sale on May 4, 2007, her circa1930 Ankara (Turkish) bronze dancer realized $285,984. Colinet was unique and in the company of a small cadre of women, who were capable of a career in the male dominated art world of her active period. This piece represents a dancing flute player with a green gold decorated bodice, the remaining being yellow gold gilt. No signature found.
