Typical brass frame and barrel of early 19th century single shot pocket pistols. Favored by both men and women, a tool necessary at a time highway men plagued coach travel, as well as common robbers targeting homes of the afluent. Cased pairs are typical, just like larger caliber full size pistols. This flintlock appears to be of Belgium manufacture, with a on center hammer and thumb activated sliding safety, which allowed the pistol to be carried at full cock. The safety bar locks the frizzen in position. If an accidental hammer fall occured, any sparks that might occur from a partial sweep on the frizzen, would not fall onto the powder in the priming pan. Typical cannon barrel end at the muzzle. Plain wood vanished grip.
Approximately .53 caliber.
