Bloch opened his porcelain factory in 1871, taking advantage of a kaolin clay discovery in Bohemia; kaolin being a key element in the manufacture of fine porcelain. His company achieved much success, creating forms in demand by the affluent. This example is typical; of the high point of the Art Nouveau period. Primarily of cream color with beige accents, sporting a high gloss glaze. Marked with BB, for Bloch, and numerals for the mold to produce the figure. The figure is of a young woman on a rocky outcrop holding a lily pad, which would find its way at the main entrance of the home, holding a bouquet of flowers, and could double as a calling card tray.
