Provenance: originally owned by Samuel Mendel, Esq.(1811–1884), the "Merchant Prince" - one of the leading merchants in Manchester during its rise to industrial prominence. Then acquired by William George Armstrong, who was an English engineer and industrialist. On June 24, 1910, sold by Christie's as part of Armstrong Heirlooms sale to Gooden and Fox (now Hazlitt, Gooden & Fox). Christie's sold the painting as "J. Constable, R.A. A View of Hampstead Heath". Then acquire by Charles Alfred Barton and transferred to the the family of the current owner, then to the current owner by decent.

Good. Crazing to the gesso on the frame, minor repairs to the frame.
