• Lot Description
  Chinese export porcelain plate, likely crafted during the mid-18th century, features a finely painted central motif of a Moor’s head, rendered in sepia and red enamels with delicate detailing. The figure, adorned with a bi-color headband, exhibits the symbolic and stylized representation of a Moor, a design popular in European heraldry and decorative arts of the period. Surrounding the central emblem is a hand-painted border with gilt detailing, complemented by floral sprays executed in famille rose enamels. The contrast between the central figure and the surrounding florals creates a striking balance, blending Chinese artistry with European heraldic influences. The outer rim is outlined in gilt, enhancing the plate’s refined aesthetic. The depiction of a Moor’s head, commonly associated with nobility, exoticism, and historical conquests, was often included in armorial porcelain commissioned by European aristocracy.
