  This highly significant Chinese export porcelain plate features a central medallion delicately painted with a portrait of Toussaint Louverture (1743–1803), the leader of the Haitian Revolution and the first President of Haiti. The portrait depicts Louverture in profile, emphasizing his distinguished features and heroic stature. The plate is surrounded by a finely painted floral border with gilt accents. This plate is a remarkable example of the intersection of Chinese export porcelain with global historical and political narratives. Produced during a period of increased international awareness of Louverture's role in the abolition of slavery and Haitian independence.
