Pre-Columbian, Oaxaca, Zapotec, Monte Alban, ca. 100 to 600 CE. A delightful pottery vessel presenting a round yet stable base and impressively thin walls that curve gently inwards to a circular rim above a deep basin. Enveloped in a rich gray slip, the fine dish is additionally adorned with abstract, incised striations along its exterior featuring a band of lattice motif closest to the rim and followed by several vertical striations and 2 equidistantly spaced zoomorphic heads resembling long-necked birds with lengthy beaks then ending with a pair of horizontal lines near the base. Repaired from several pieces with restoration over some break lines and others visible. Expected nicks and abrasions throughout, commensurate with age. Otherwise, excellent with impressive remaining detail and nice earthen deposits.
