Native American, Southwestern United States, Navajo tribe, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A stunning sterling (93.5%) silver necklace and matching bracelets. The necklace is comprised of dozens of strands strung with hundreds of delicate tubular 'liquid silver' beads. The terminals are capped by conical shapes with incised floral motifs and a loop and hook clasp. The two bracelets are miniature versions of the necklace with "STERLING" engraved on the terminals and a spring clasp. Removable wire earring hooks are held by the clasp on both, converting these bracelets into earrings! This type of jewelry is called "liquid silver" because the tiny silver beads are supple and velvety in texture when strung together. They are sometimes called "silver heishi" because heishi refers to the traditional tube or disc beads from the American Southwest. The necklace with the combination of either earrings or bracelets makes a beautiful and versatile ensemble. Size of necklace: 33.75" L (85.7 cm); total weight: 335.4 grams; bracelet size: 6.75" L (17.1 cm); total weight: 7.7 grams; quality of silver: 93.5%
