First Nations / Native American, Alaska or Canadian Arctic, Inuit, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. An exceptional carved soapstone sculpture of a seated woman dressed in layers of thick clothing. She rests on an integral stool as she prepares a boot. Perhaps the woman is starting to put the boot on, or she could be mending the material. She looks forward with a simple and stylized visage consisting of incised eyes, protruding nose and lips. Her long hair I pulled back with a clasp at the nape of her neck. The overall stone and form presented is rounded and soft with polished surfaces in mottled gray and dark green hues. Size: 6" L x 4" W x 7.375" H (15.2 cm x 10.2 cm x 18.7 cm)
